In ancient times, traditional farming was solely done by utilizing cow dung manure. The seeds used in farming were indigenous, traditional, delicious and nutritious. This mode of farming was cheap for farmers and healthy for consumers. However, in modern times, excessive use of chemical fertilizers, hybrid/terminator/GMO seeds, toxic pesticides along with multipurpose use of tractor and harvesters has made the whole farming process, highly expensive and poisonous.
In the ‘पारंपरिक Tribal Harvest’ series of Vidhyanjali, we are trying to preserve our natural seed bank which is still prevalent in tribal area by educating and promoting self-organic/traditional farming in areas of Satpura Hills, MP. The best thing about this is that farm produce is of superior quality as it is devoid of toxicity. This process allows us to preserve traditional, nutritious, non-toxic desi seeds for many generations to come.
Jain Food is the diet of the Jains, the followers of Jainism. It is the strictest form of religiously motivated diet regulation in the Indian subcontinent. Jain Food is Lacto-vegetarian food with added restrictions. Jainism is a religion based on non-violence, which is directed towards everything: people, animals, insects and even plants. Food that contains even small particles of the bodies of organisms such as alcohol, honey, figs and the use of anything that grows underground like onions, potatoes, garlic, carrot, radish etc. are unacceptable in this diet. Every food preparation has to follow certain guidelines like using only filtered water, non-perished ingredients etc. Also all that prepared food has an expiry date set by religious doctrines. However the degree of adherence to the ancient prescribed way of cooking and food preparation varies by region and the different sects of Jainism.
Our food/other items labeled Jain are made by following the above mentioned standard methods of food preparation, water filtration, and ingredient selection.
